What will life be like...

The purpose of this blog is to investigate the ways in which life will change in the future. Theories and predictions about the future have been around a long time. People tend to respond to techonology along a specturm of attitudes between eager acceptance and complete rejection. The former technophiles, are excited about every new discovery and advancement. The later are called luddites who resist technology - a good example of this would be Amish people. Regardless of people's responses it often seems like the landscape of technology is changing at ever increasing speeds.
We know that technology changes the way that we live - in our social interaction and the way we go about routine tasks and even complex skills. We can now perform minute surgical procedures at the microscopic level. We have reduced personal computing to some powerful handheld devices. We can heat our food with microwaves and on and on.
So if you were to look into your crystal ball and make a prediction about how technology will change in the future what coudl you image...
Answer the following question in a new post:
What new important technologies are going to emerge in the next 25 years?
How will these devices change the way we live as humans?
What aspects of technology should we be cautious or concerned about?
Which aspects should we embrace more fully?

  1. 1) Processors with virtually unlimited capacity, computers with virtually unlimited memory, data stores not being centralized, but in 'cloud' form, easier interfaces to access and process data, better interpretation of data into conclusions.
    2) Media intangibility, constantly being 'connected', no longer carrying around bulky technology, not worrying about forgetting data due to advances in cloud technology.
    3) Interfaces blur the line between reality and technology. Self-aware technology.
    4) Co-operation by colleagues for projects due to increased sharing of data. Mapping out data-rich areas of the natural world such as the infinitesimally small and the infinitely large.

  2. I think that the technologies that are going to emerge in the next 25 years are:
~Less cords that are connected to most electronic devices.
    ~Thinner and lighter laptops
    ~homesharing over very long distances
    ~projector on computers (compact)
They will make thing easier. For work and home use. Things being more compact make it easier to travel with them, move them around and they take up less space in your office and house.
Though technology would be easier to move around we should be careful because now that it is easier to move around people will be able to take them every where and they will be on them more. They will mix talking over video chat and text message with real conversation.
We should embrace how it will be easier to conect with people but we cant forget about the things that are real in life.

Within the next 25 years, i expect many drastic changes to be made in the flow of technology. First of all, the world will be rendered almost entirely, if not entirely, wireless. Wireless signals will be used to connect devices over long distances, making technology more portable as a whole. This will also render telephone ground lines and wires useless. This evolution in technology will change how we interact in society. Planned events will have more short notice, because it will always be expected of the attendees to have quick access to information on the event. Living styles may become less stressful due to the lack of wire problems (tangles, damage, broken circuits, etc.). People will likely become less socially capable as texting becomes a more prominent form of interaction. This means a lot of people will be awkward, and fail in relationships. This, along with the overall increased exposure of humans to technology, is something to be concerned about because it will directly affect the functions of society. We should embrace technology as a whole, as use it to our advantage, but not allow it to consume our lives. Activity is important and we all don't want to be hunchback world of warcraft addicts in our adulthood.

  4. Within The next 25 years, there will be many changes. First off, mostly everything will be able to be controlled in-directly, for example, turning on your car through a wave transmitted through a cellphone. This will make the cellphone used much more than it already is. We should not be too reliant on our cellphones though because the battery runs out so most likely if this technology is created then things will be controlled off cellphones and you always have the option of doing it phsyically. We should, however, embrace that we would actually have the option to controll things with our cellphones.

What new important technologies are going to emerge in the next 25 years?
-New important technologies that may emerge in the next 25 years would be more virtually improved technology. It's been predicted that we will litteraly be able to walk into a machine as it will simulate virtual scenery and communites. Talk about taking gaming to the next level. Other technologies that may be made would be the google glasses where we can view messages and browse the internet at ease. Less chords on machines will happen as most of that is happening in present day.

How will these devices change the way we live as humans?
-Virtual technology can change the way we live as humans as it can alter our lifestyle. At ease would could easily simulate and walk into places and explore. Almost like a vaction, but at home. If virtual games will exsist you would be able to be connected to a platform and get exercise as you play videogames. Google Glasses would be a great invention as it would change our lifestlye by being able to browse the internet or check emails where ever, and whenever you want. Lastly, no chords can cause less stress and get rid of confusion of what wire is the right one. No chords can also lead to less injuries.
What aspects of technology should we be cautious or concerned about?
-Being too attached to virtual technology can lead to not enough Social life even if you are with you friends via virtual tech. With Google Glasses, there could be a slight chance of damaging your vision.
Which aspects should we embrace more fully?
-We should keep advancing in technology.

  6. In the next 25 years new technologies similar to Cochlear implants will emerge. Unlike the current Cochlear implants which are used to allow the deaf to hear on a level nearly as high as most people these devices will be used for something I call advanced hearing. Many people rarley notice bass at all when listening to music, other people cannot hear the higher frequencies used in some experimental electronica and Powermetal. Some people like myself crave the low notes uncommon in mainstream music, unfortunatly when you get down to the fairly satisfying F#0 at a terrifying 23.12Hz (Avalible only on the rare low tuned 6 & 7 string basses & extremley rare sub-contra instruments)it starts to get too quite for most people to understand. But there is still lower the brand new C#0 which can only be replicated with the highest end electronics by those such as Bartaloni's pick up, which most poepl cannot hear at all! In order for these bass craving Audiophiles such as my self to truly enjoy the music we are capable of making we will need this Advanced hearing. Which due to the Quick advances in the Cochlear inplants will not be too far in the future.

In the next 25 years it is unlikley to be common accessory with the majority of the population; but more so with audiophiles.

However not all technologies of the future should be embraced so openly, my girlfriend of two years recently pointed out something to me. When we first began dating I had just gotten my cell phone and very rarley accessed my families shared computer, I had all 80% + in my Language arts classes however due to my constant use of text, internet and our online slang terms the way I speak to her has changed drastically from clear grammatically correct sentences to " ey, i kno i said id msg u b4 i left but i was gonna b l8." This has not only begun to change how my generation communicates but how we word formal letters and essays. 55% of teachers say they have even noticed students using such slangs in their work. My lack of proper grammer in casual text conversations Is even effecting my ability to remember how to use it in this assignment! Hencforth we should not embrace our communication technologies so easily, enforce that we use proper witten structure so we remember them!

However we should embrace medical technologies like nuclear power and stemcells more openly.

What new important technologies are going to emerge in the next 25 years?
I think a new technology which will emerge is a neutron-blocker, a device which prevents neutrons from forming or traveling from a uranium nucleus to another in a chain reaction called nuclear fission, used in atomic weapons.

How will these devices change the way we live as humans?
This device will rectify our current problem; the offensive side of warfare is too strong due to nuclear weapons, and thus a war would be disastrous. This is antagonistic to the situation in WWI, when the defence was stronger and stalemate ensued. By blocking neutrons and thus preventing nuclear fission from occurring, people could live without fear of nuclear warfare or disasters. It would also take all power away from rouge nations such as North Korea which terrorize the Earth with threats of nuclear war. Furthermore, nations such as the US, USSR, France, and India would no longer have a heavy advantage over other nations, and nations would be on a fairer playing field.

What aspects of technology should we be cautious or concerned about?
The technology could be used to shut down nuclear reactors, which could cause an energy shortage. It would also make nuclear submarines and aircraft carriers useless. Furthermore, it would lead to more war, as nuclear deterrence and mutually assured destruction would no longer be concerns. We still also have to fear fusion weapons and hydrogen bombs, which simulate reactions occurring in the sun. Anti-matter is another possible threat to Earth’s security.

Which aspects should we embrace more fully?
We should embrace the peace it can bring, and use this peace to advance society. We can combat terrorism and rouge nations, but should not hate them. We should accept and cooperate with each other so as to unify and advance mankind.
